Companies looking to recruit young managers should be head-hunting in Mumbai and Calcutta first, a survey says while making the “eye-opening” revelation that less than a fourth of the country’s B-school graduates are employable.

MeritTrac Services, India’s largest skills assessment company, has found MBA graduates from Calcutta the second-best in quality after those from Mumbai.

The budding managers from Calcutta put up “consistent performance across various tests”, says the study that sampled 800-odd graduates from 55 B-schools across six cities.

Delhi came third, followed by Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. The graduates from Delhi put up an “indifferent performance”, the survey says, adding that the national capital leads in sheer numbers, being the “biggest contributor to the fresh talent pool” in India.

The study, which tested graduates on “abilities” and “communication skills”, however, paints a dismal picture of the overall quality.

The findings complement those of a recent University Grants Commission report that was scathing about the standard of graduates and diploma holders churned out by the country’s private technical institutes.

The MeritTrac study found that on the whole, 56 per cent of the young MBAs were employable on “abilities” alone but when communication skills were also taken into account, the figure fell to a paltry 23 per cent.

“Communication skills are an area that can effectively be addressed, as tools for them are available. We hope the report serves as an eye-opener for India Inc, which is in dire need of more managers than ever before,” said Madan Padaki, co-founder and director of MeritTrac.

Each candidate was tested on verbal, quantitative and mental application abilities as well as four interaction attributes: articulation, grammar, assertiveness and confidence.

"Water is life, Water is death"

Water is one of the most precious elements of life on the planet. It is critical for satisfying the basic human needs, health, food production, energy and maintenance of regional and global ecosystems.

Over 70% of the human body is made up of water. A human being may survive without food for several days but water deprivation can kill a person within a matter of hours.

Life is, therefore, tied to water, as it is tied to air and food. And food is indeed tied to water.

Water could well be the only natural resource to touch all aspects of human civilization.

"No single measure would do more to reduce disease and save lives in the developing world than bringing safe water and adequate sanitation" (Kofi Annan).

Issues of food or health or sanitation, environment or cities or energy production, the 21st century has to deal with water quality and management.

Yet, while water sustains life, it can also cause deaths if contaminated. Some of the deadliest diseases, which kill millions around the world every year, are carried in unclean water. In fact, unsafe water and sanitation cause an estimated 80% of all diseases in the developing world, where as much as 90% of waste water is discharged without treatment. An estimated 50 to 100 lakhs people die every year-including one child every 15 second from diseases caused by poor water quality; 25,000 people are dying every day from malnutrition.

The Crisis

Let us look at some of the different dimensions of this crisis.

About 120 crores of people (20% of the global population) spread across 40 countries do not have access to safe water; 240 crores of people lack adequate sanitation services.

There is no more fresh water on earth today than there was 2000 years ago when population was 3% of its current size! In the past 100 years, the world population was tripled but water use by humans has multiplied sixfold. Women in Africa and Asia walk an average distance of 6 km a day to collect water.

Fresh water fishing, a key livelihood activity around the world, is under threat. More than 20% of the world's known - 10,000 - fresh water fish species have become extinct, been threatened or endangered in recent decades.

Daily water use per person is about 600 litres in residential areas of North America and Japan and 250-350 litres in Europe whereas per capita water use per day in sub Sahara region is a mere 10 litres. (Per capita use of water in India is about 50 litres per day).

It is reckoned that one flush of a western toilet uses as much water as the average person in the developing world uses for a whole day's washing, drinking, cleaning and cooking!

Over the next 20 years, the world's population will increase from the present 6.4 billion to an estimated 7.2 billion whereas the average supply of water per person is expected to fall by one-third. The hardest hit will be the poorest.

According to UN, by 2025 as many as 500 crores of people will be facing water shortage; as many as 270 crores will face severe water shortages, if the world continues consuming water at the present rate.

Water scarcity is estimated to cause annual global losses of 350 million tonnes of food production by 2025.

Save every drop of water today, because water shortage could well lead to the next world war. Unless appropriate measures are taken immediately, the world would soon face threats to global good supply; further environmental damage and ongoing health risks for the hundreds of millions of people lacking access to clean water.

"Fierce national competition over water resources has prompted fears that water issues contain the seeds of violent conflict" (Kofi Annan).

There are 215 trans-boundary rivers whose basins cover 50 percent of all land areas; 32% of the national boundaries are formed by water. Consequently, UN has identified 300 potential water conflict zones.

Why the Crisis?

Water covers 70% of the planet but more than 97.5% of the surface water is ocean which, obviously, is not usable in industry, agriculture or as drinking water. (Desalination is far too expensive to be for widespread adoption).

The fresh water on which the world depends represents a mere 2.5% of available water. But then, three-quarters of this fresh water is trapped in the form of snow and ice. That is, all that is available for human use (and, of course, for animals as well) is 0.6% of the surface water!

Population growth, climate change, overuse/ misuse of water and pollution of available water are the principal causes of the crisis.

Irrigation accounts for two-thirds of global use of fresh water. Farmers use water less efficiently and withdraw more water to compensate for water losses. In developing countries 60% is wasted or used inefficiently.

Major sources of water pollution are human wastes, industrial wastes and chemicals and pesticides and fertilizers used for farming.

We have been pumping groundwater faster than aquifers can recharge.

Most of the water reservoirs are suffering reductions in storage capacity as a result of sedimentation caused by deforestation; on an average 1 % of the water storing capacity of the storage reservoirs is being lost annually.

Much of the municipal water supply is lost before it reaches consumers, leaking out of water mains, pipes or faucets or disappearing through illegal taps.

In plain terms, as far as fresh water is concerned, the world has been living way beyond its means.

Not Too Late Yet!

Of all the planet's renewable resources, fresh water may well be the most unforgiving;difficult to purify, expensive to transport and impossible to substitute.

"Water is not like oil. There is no substitute. If we continue to take it for granted, much of the earth is going to run short of water or food - or both."

Defining India

A dreamland with peace and brotherhood ingrained in all the souls, where sentiments, human emotions and relations carry meaning and are prioritized; where sufferers, indigent and benefited are always helped. We all walk hand-in-hand and face all troubles happily and boldly. This is what actually our nation is.

Reality

We hold in our hands the destiny of our motherland. The dream of a united India which is recognized respected and admired by the whole world. The picture of the nation defined as above was the vision and a sweet dream in the eyes of those great freedom fighters, the people who sacrificed their lives just for the cause of the nation and for us ‘the youth of present’. We, The Young generation, the present countrymen must be ashamed of ourselves as we have failed miserably on fulfilling the dreams of those great souls. In my opinion we have ruined our nation and destroyed their dreams which they had seen and cherished for us. I think we haven’t lived up to their expectations.

My dear friends, please broaden your views and scope of thinking. Take up the responsibility of the nation; think about the nation, the aspirations and sufferings of the lower strata of society.

Please wake up, arouse your souls, and don’t be dead and stop taking up limited aims in your lives at personal levels. Its is our own responsibility not only to nourish our own lives but also make an effort of making India a better place to live in.

We have to go a long way for cherishing those beautiful dreams and vision of peaceful and united India.

"The Most Difficult Game is about to begin"

We all love Children, isn't it? We all like to see them illuminating this world with their smiles, but how many of us like to see emaciated children with dull eyes? Children with muddy faces and rough hands, children who were never pampered, who never had that spark in their eyes that expresses the zest for life. There are children who are caressed by their mothers and are made to take healthy diet and there are some who are made to earn for a single meal a day if they chose to survive. Yes, this is also real side to this beautiful picture of a smiling child; child labour is a reality in India and it shouldn’t come to everyone as shock, for this is evident from the little shop we pass by on the neighbouring street or from every other household where little children are kept as domestic help. Now, the choice to ignore this side of the story or to spare a thought to it is ours.

Let us see, what our government did to help those little children. According to a recent notification by the ministry of labour, issued under the child labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986, children will not be employed as domestic servants or as help in dhabas, restaurants, hotels, motels, tea shops, resorts, spas or in other recreational centers. Is it good news? Of course it is; after all children are the future of our country, but then is changing a law enough for national welfare? No, for what we need is a right manner of implementation of such laws.

In our country laws are changed everyday, promises are made, plans are formulated but nothing follows as planned, and promises are hardly kept. For instant lets take this issue of child labour, though a notification has been formed, but what answers do we have to the problems faced by these children, even if they do not have to work as domestic help, or at motels, or dhabas, there are no parallel arrangements made for their proper upbringing, no special planning for the education, nutrition, and shelter is made for those children, where will they go if they don’t work; what option do they have other than earning few pennies to arrange for a single meal. The employers are well aware of the condition of such homeless children and are ready to exploit them.

Statistics reveal that India has 16.57 million child labourers – the highest in the world. Data complied by CRY reveals that as much as 54% of child labour are in agricultural sector, 18% in the manufacturing sector. In spite of numerous developments India boasts of, its children are still neglected and exploited. Lack of awareness about the basic rights of a child has lead to easy violation of laws meant to protect and empower kids. There is cheap labour available in the market in form of these children, that is why Renuka Chaudhary, Legal Expert to the Ministry for Women and Child Development and State, seeks to completely ban any child working under the age of 11 years but without any support and education what can these children do to avail their basic needs.

In a country like India where children are regarded as a gift form God, it is a pity to witness such a miserable state of children. The state, the laws, the government, nothing has helped them in true sense, now its our turn, our responsibility to help these children; to do little things to move step by step to reach the goal; then from working is not a solution, what they need is someone to truly care for them, their future, their education, and nutrition. We all need to join hands and need to help these little kids in our own way. so that these young sapling grow into tlarge trees with strong roots anbedde in our metheland.

Placement 07: An articulated Report

3rd December came and passed silently and very few people knew it happened in the wake of examination starting next day and grand celebration held the other day (11 1C1C1). No, no, no, no, I am not talking about that certain date of the month. Grand celebration!!! Is it creating any echo in your head? Guess What? It was our much hyped, put into high energy jubilation when more than 2 dozen people celebrated their placement party together in the BBC court, at the same event it was made public that ‘eye-to-eye-contact-type-events’ do happen in AIM. Yeah! You guessed right I am talking about ‘THE BULLS DAY’. But, regrettably the anniversary of “Bulls Day” was not remembered at all. There are many legends in AIM; some forgotten some still in practice. The “eye-contact” was in everybody’s memory throughout the year but…The question is – “Was that really as forgettable as many people declared that Bull Day should be remembered as Black Day, Ask those who are still there, and ask those who are eager to recruit from this institution this year again.

Well that’s must be because of the whole placements this year is in a kind of Bulls mood at least if we see the story till now. So what’s I am going to show you in one or two paragraphs below is nothing but a revelation that something quite basic have changed in the students attitude towards placements. This could be observed by the way students rejected on of the leading insurance major at the campus. I mean look at the brand value, it was no 1 in its field; if you are rejecting no 1 what’s left.

Change started even before placement procedure was actually started (preparation of placement brochure etc.) our Placement coordinators announced publicly (In a batch meeting, LH2) that they will put demand in front of companies about certain package and will not entertain lower than a certain level. This was never happened in the AIMK history.

Now, they have advantageously handled the situation and the average salary is almost double than that at same date previous year; But, What Next? How much it’s possible to keep up with this. One thing is sure, student’s expectations are really high now and they are getting up to their expectations. So, why we will lay red carpet those who are not taking us as equal as others nonetheless quality is better: just because of brand name?

The next generation of the institute is also in get-up-and-go mood. One student from MBA10 opines, “With such a big brand of army we are in a better position to sell ourselves and do negotiations. We are getting anything less; be it package or profile; then only reason behind it is are underestimating ourselves.”

But is it so easy. Easy is to say it. Are we putting our effort to making it a big brand; as big as the army itself? Even Army is not considering AIMK in that sense. Example, VT courses have been closed and fresh alliances have been prepared with IIMs to train officers about tricks of management.

So who are the heroes? Who is taking it ahead?

Undoubtedly, Avinash Dubey and Shuchi Monga, ask their daily routine! It’s almost a full time job. No placement officer at the campus. Definitely, students themselves play a major role in the placement process at any B-School; but, they don’t operate as placement officers. Watch out for student’s partaking in various activities in and out site the institute; they are attracting VPs of a company in the midst of the crowd. Yeah it’s happening! They are creating brand.

Well known business schools are reinventing their brands to make themselves more attractive to students, reports Steve Coomber

If brands influence which car we choose, why not which MBA programme? In increasingly competitive times, business schools in the education market need to communicate the values that make them different. Branding is a fundamental way of doing so. A clearly defined brand can be the difference between a candidate considering a school’s programme or dismissing it.

“To maintain stature and grow without losing quality, the premium universities must distinguish their business offerings as brands whose values uniquely travel in elite global circles,” says Mark Linder, global client leader at WPP, the worldwide advertising and marketing services.

The Business of Branding 2005 report carried out by CarringtonCrisp and the Association of Business Schools, found that half the business schools studied had rebranded in the past five years. Linder, for example, is currently involved with a branding exercise at the Judge Business School at Cambridge.

Clint Evans, marketing director at Henley Management College, says: “Brand is about purpose, positioning, personality, perception management, and promise. It’s what you stand for and aspire to be at a given moment in time.”

But do prospective students notice the brand and does it affect their choice? Student surveys show that rankings are the critical factor when choosing an MBA programme.

At Cranfield School of Management, which is engaged in a programme redesign and branding rethink, a survey of students last year revealed that rankings were the most influential factor, followed by reputation and recommendation — no mention of brand.

There is, however, a strong connection between branding, reputation and rankings. Brand helps to build reputation — providing it is authentic. In the Branding 2005 report, of 9,000 UK business school alumni surveyed, 62 per cent chose their schools on reputation. And brand and reputation feed into the rankings.

At Esade, it is surely no coincidence that a strategic reshaping of the Spanish school’s internal programmes, coupled with a branding relaunch, was followed by a sharp climb up the various international rankings.

If students do not pay attention to brand when drawing up a business school shortlist, then they should. A business school’s brand can make a real difference where it counts — in the pocket.

“Think of it from the student’s point of view and what they are buying,” Evans says. “Yes, it’s a qualification but the value of that piece of paper and those initials is only as good as the continuing brand value and reputation of the business school. The students are investors in the school, and expect a return on their investment over many years.”

With so many schools reinventing their brands, students must be careful to look beneath the veneer. Rebranding must be coupled with strategic change. New logos should be accompanied by programme alterations that reflect a change in identity. There should not be a lack of connection between what the school does and how it presents itself.

Wally Olins, co-founder of Wolff Olins, the brand consultant, advises: “If you are going to change the brand, you have to have a change which is recognised internally so people can see that the external change represents an internal dynamic, and that it is not just superficial nonsense.”

The Rising Economies of China, India And Russia

(A report on interaction with Mr. Guninder Sandhu of MBA07, currently working on Indo China project with E J McKay & Co. inc., while he came down to AIM campus on 9th July 2006. Currently he is based in Shanghai.)

The report provides an insight of industrial and financial growth of major budding economies –China, India and Russia.

For the past decade, China and India have grabbed sizeable portion of global market investments and have positioned themselves on the missile of perpetual economic rise. China (which has a competitive edge over India) has the best industries and is also rated as the best business economy. China has greater number of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) which adhere to changeable regulations.

Chinese economy is dependent on exports whereas the Indian economy relies entirely on the service sector .In China 35% of population is engaged in production sector .The MNCs are sprouting in China despite linguistic barriers on account of labour flexible laws and liberal fiscal policies. Foreign banks have a share of 23% in Chinese domestic banks but in India the financial situation of the banks is not quite consolidated as they offer a meager 10 % share. In order to surpass China, India should concretely renovate and revitalise its manufacturing sector for result-oriented outcomes and a long term sustenance.

Mr. Harsha Bhogle will be quiz master for the on-stage QUIZ programme tomorrow.

As the top notch B-Schools gathered at IIMC for the highly prestigious QUIZ Programme conducted by Business Today and Aditya Birla Group to prove their mettle, AIMK was name of just another Management Institute but when the results were out in the evening, we all knew, what Mr. Rahul Pachauri and Sumit Naik have done. Yeah, AIMK was qualified for the Regional finals of BT Acumen 2006 in its first attempt along with IITK and IIMC.

AIMK secured second postion after IIMC at top. According to the sources from the organisers "Getting to the finals in mere its first attempt is quit courageous for the institute"

A team lead by Mr. Rahul Pachuari, MBA 9 was participating for the mega show including a debate where the team of Mr. Arpan Roy Chaudhary and Ms. Shivani Mani (both from MBA 10) were not lucky enough to make it this time. The only thing we lack at the moment, we could not get any instant reference such as internet as opposite to the host team. But the josh is still high as we have yet another team for the debate to go tomorrow.

Apart from the main event of BT Acumen, the co-organiser Aditya Birla Group had arranged many small quizes in the form of computer games where the questions were related to the group. All of the pariticants(18) won various prises in these small quizes specially meant for the audiances. Few were able to score 100% in this quiz based computer game (Kamla Singh, Kiran Kumari Gupta, Dinesh Chandra Chauhan)[Refer what the participants opine about the use of such computer application under the section participants speaks.

On 9th of September one another team from the institute will participate in debate lead by Mr. Vidyanand Gupta MBA 9. I will be here with the latest updates as soon as possible.

B-SCHOOL: The Army Institute of Management in Kolkata is attracting the big boys of India Inc.

Living out of a suitcase and exposure to different types of experiences and new places every other year, does make managers more flexible, more open to take on new challenges and ready to work in any place. This is what K K Choudhuri, director of Army Institute of Management at Kolkata (AIMK) is convinced of.

“Army wards are used to shuttling between one city and another right from junior school. So by the time they start looking for a job, it doesn’t matter where they get posted,” says Chaudhuri.

This is the reason why they make competent managers and have the ability to adjust to any work situation, adds Choudhuri.

AIMK, established in July 1997 and affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), aims to cash in on this, by grooming and training the children of army officers and also helping the families of servicemen cope with civilian life. It is managed by the Indian Army under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), New Delhi.

AIMK offers only one programme – the full-time residential MBA. With 90 students per batch, 80 per cent seats are reserved for army wards and 20 per cent for the general category. Spread over 10 acres, AIMK was initially christened National Institute of Management Calcutta.

“But AICTE has it that an institute cannot be termed ‘national’ unless it is a government-run institute. So the change in name, used February 2005 onwards,” said Soma Sur, teacher at AIMK.
Classes start every year in July but the admission procedure takes about a year to finalise. Admission is done through Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management. Followed by group discussion and personal interview.

The minimum qualification for admission to AIMK is a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from any University recognised by the Association of Indian Universities. Curriculum is laid down according to WBUT guidelines. With wards of Gallantry Award Winners and War Widows preferred for admission to ~~IIMK~~ AIMK (Misprint), a Rs 73,810 course fee inclusive of hostel accommodation is charged.

General candidates have to pay Rs 90,950, inclusive of hostel charges. For the present academic session, Uttar Pradesh saw 15 army wards, the highest from any one state making it to AIMK, whereas for the general category there were 12 out of 18 students who made it from West Bengal. The average age of students this year at AIMK is 26 years.

The institute has 16 core faculty and 40 visiting faculty that include people from higher education departments, Army personnel, principals and professors of regional as well as overseas universities, and managers of international organisations.

“For the last three years, we have provided 100 per cent placement to our students,” said Choudhuri. Thirty companies all over India participated in the placement programme 2005, and students secured placements in AC Nielsen, Anand Rathi group, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, Berger Paints, e-force, e-Serve International, Haldia Petrochemicals, HCL Infosystems, Hindustan Latex, ICICI Bank, Indiabulls, to name a few.

The highest salary offered to the batch of 2004-2006, the last batch, was Rs 4.69 lakh per annum with average salary Rs 2.45 lakh per annum. “We will soon be able to increase our seats to 120 from the present 90,” added Choudhuri. The ratio of army wards to general candidates would still remain 80:20.

The AIMK model has since been replicated elsewhere in the country. Greater Noida now has an Army Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT) but unlike AIMK, admission to AIMT is open only to army wards.

Computers in business - a Beginners approach

Modern businesses are constantly in need of new kinds of information to stay competitive and profitable. Often, they turn to computers to deliver this information. However, computers are generalists. They can be used in all kinds of different ways to serve the information needs of business people. These can be listed as below:

1. STRING AND ORGANISING INFORMATION: Storing and organizing data is the central purpose of a database and computers are used most commonly for that. So, the types of data are growing rapidly. For e.g. If we consider a typical video rental store we find that all those movies can be digitalized and stored in a database. Therefore, in the near future we will be able to turn on our television (which will be equipped with a computer) and download the move we want to watch from a database.

2. SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION: Computers help the decision makers find relevant data buried in large collections of irrelevant data. Once, a set of data has been collected and stored in a database, it is relatively easy for the computer to search the database for specific items. Searching for information takes place constantly on the world wide web, where people use search tools such as Lycos and Yahoo! To find th information they need. These search tools work by continually updating databases about the sits on the web. We actually searching a database on the web that summarizes information that can be found ton the web.

3. TRANSLATING INFORMATION BETWEEN FORMATS: Computers also can be used to translate information from one format to another. For example. A table of numbers can be displayed as a box or pie chart. The same information is provided in both the table and the bar chart, but the different formats suit different purposes.

4. PLANNING FOR THE PURPOSE: Computers are used to plan for the future. For example budgets are often created using spreadsheets. In many cases, the values in the budgets are hypothetical. Business people can plug in different values to determine how a product can be manufactured in the most cost-effective way.

5. CREATING PRODUCTS: There are many types of creative endeavors that are accompanied with computers. Businesses in advertising and the entertainment industry are constantly creating images, sounds and animated effects. Draining and painting programs; MIDI tools for creating and recording music; and a host of advanced video tools help artists to create digital art. Then creating with words is almost always done with word processing software.

6. COMPUNICATING IDEAS: Finally businesses use computers extensively for communication. Workers today send email or leave voice mail. They can also hold on screen conferences in real time. Business people use word processing software constantly to generate memos and correspondence.

Thus, the computer helps business in these ways. The business software they use are

VERTICAL APPLICATIONS: These are programs that perform every phase of critical business function such as accounting, order entry or payroll.

PERSONAL PRRODUCTIVITY APPLICATIONS: They are designed to help individual employees do their work effectively. For example word processing programs, spreadsheets and graphics programs.

WORK GROUP APPLICATIONS: They are programs design to make combinations of individual more effective as they work together toward common goals. Many of these applications require special equipment and significant computing power.

It has introduced the concept of e-brand and it has been recognized and employed as an efficient channel among various media for branding. Brand recognition is the key to reinforcing a corporate image and developing the loyalty of the target market. In this era branding process is not complete unless a company has extended the branding platform to internet.

The internet makes company global. It has eliminated the boundaries between the real and virtual world. A web site of a company can be viewed throughout the world via internet. A web site is an international medium. It is accessible to anyone and everyone in the world looking for specific information on internet. A web site addressing international clients’ needs to put across information sterilized from local pointers, accents and references and contact details. It is a 24 hour marketing medium. One well designed and focused can bring possible customers and investor through the site. There is no need to spend costly affair. There should be seamless integration from print media branding to the digital media. Consistency of logo, applications of logo, color schemes, content, flavour content, brand message etc. is a must for e-branding.

A good web site through proper planning can retain the same spontaneity details, as a printed brochure would have. Branding on internet can be multimedia experience in terms of Audio/Video and text content. With the advent of Broadband internet across the world, dynamic video content on the web makes it more attractive. Communication of core brand offerings is much easier than in any other medium, across the globe. So e-branding becomes a vital element of the branding plan.

E- Branding is a major component n branding strategy for the companies looking at international markets.

According to a 19999 Intemarket Group survey marketers continue to rely heavily on traditional brand building investments, including print, TV and radio ads, 55 percent of e-commerce sites report investment in newspaper ads, 54 percent in magazine ads, 35 percent in radio and TV ads and 35 percent in print catalogs. By contrast it says “sponsorship on other sites” is a powerful mechanism for reaching nearly 20 percent of customers who find few sites ia “random surfing” and roughly equivalent to the affiliate networks. Successful marketers never ignore the web try to reach out to and connect with their web0savvy customers. Online marketers have to carefully plan and manage programs that give them broad reach of links on effective and brand-positive means of acquiring better relation with the existing ones. A range of strategies such as customer relationship email, corporate email, newsletter, and permission networks sponsored independent loyalty can be build by personalized services. Personalization is the essence of experimental branding.

Have a look on this pic. Under what circumstances the mail box storage quota is showing 132% full. Recently it happend with Rawat sir (Manoj Singh Rawat MCA 5) on his fastmail.fm email account. Give me a wild guess? First 10 people with correct answers will be rewarded nothing.(ha ha ha).

Farewell bhi chala gaya. That was the time hurdle I had set when I would start studying for my exams, lekin nahi !

The farewell was nice with the special touch of all the juniors dressed in a code. Very impressive.
This semester I don think people are in that great a mood to sctually slog and struggle. Ho jayega !

It is early morning right now and its not that I am an early riser, I havent slept. Been on the net and watched 4 movies all night. Has been fun and 2 movies are still due. God! I wish I had ever spoken like this about my syllabus. I would have been somewhere else.

The Moments:

If only you had come from Pune crying "Jab mein na…pune se aya than na…", knew about nostalgic legends that would create history or were you aware of his presence on Alumni days…Saket Prabhakar, someone grateful to start off with attendance for BBC sessions. Accompanied by Suyal and Kharbanda, who were receieved by the PCQuest future editor-in-c, Jaggi (Java). Fun thrilled, open aired, comesome 'cas that's something that builds up for the total show of it all….Soon came in Chiku (as we called him), the super lovely tuodda Brar and the life threatening Sheoran, for whom everything was less and screwing was the best. And did Sheoran came hugging to Saket Sir as he first did in TGIF, Priyas….And soon started off what you would all happen to believe, the HIGH spirits of our well being, Chiku~~Kharbanda PLC talks, Jaggi~~Sheoran crusades, "Kaise hai tu" re-iteration, and the evergreen fables of the same lovely place. And not late came the global impact, Nishu Sir (as they called him)
and the table started trembling soon enough for which giddiness and ecstasy had taken their tolls. Sheoran took the better off on the Raseele hooth and Jaggi backtracked about him not complaining to Chako….lol…'cas when it comes to "Ho payega boss" or "khel ja" will you be a position to define it correct…Picture these…

Sheoran was sitting with Nishat and Bhuppi in the evening, just when they started having Vodka and soon they saw the Warden coming right towards them…sand started staring at them…they said..Sheoran -->" maam aap aa gaye??" she said…" Khusboo to bahut achhi aa rahi hai"…Sheoran -->" maam pani hi pee rahen hain"…She said…" Mere naak to kuch aur hi bata rahi hai". Nishat said..."Mam aapki naak hai to thik hi bata rahi hogi" lol…they went and Warden stared and said ----" Fluffy Lets go"

And the famous "My Balls" episode. Vivek Talik(title so coz he was always found high), Khera and few others were smoking away to glory next to lockers. Chako came out of the mess entrance next to LH2 and that very moment the drag was passed to Malik, cacko saw him smoking and cried out loud "Bloody Disgusting my balls"…and saying "Do you think I'm a bastard" Malik, Khera and gang started laughing...chacko left without saying any other word...lol

Playing basketball at night 0200 hrs...after heavy drinking...the only thing was that the basketball was personal...and not of the college…and came wardy and told us not to shout so much...and play quietly...After that Sheoran asked for a pass from sethi...instead of giving a pass..he went solo and missed the basket..he went directly to sethi and shouted loud....f***** why didn’t u give me that pass..he said i never heard you ..or even saw u shouting…he said....don’t u know i don’t refuse to whatever maam says.. she said play quietly...so he said that softly.. she told the chowkidaar to get the ball.., just then Brar told the chowkidar to piss off as that was a personal basketball...warden asked the chowkidar ..didn’t you hear me...what i just said...unki kyyon sun rahen ho...mein kya bol rahin tum ko samagh mein nahin aa raha…Brar said...mein tere ley loonga dada agar tune ball ko haath lagaya to…all laughing away to glory...lol

And the common prank…when we used to have those official gathering with red carpet and those directions for different places...Sheoran and cafu always used to point that toilet direction next to CR2..towards Chako's office...lol

And as we left while taking caring of the HIGH spirited Jaggi, not to mention of his annotations, as he said using EJB and his U-turns on the way home, was I being directed by someone who was everytime trying to overpower…lol…and we being followed by Saket Sir and Brar…and then Brar had to eventually come and get hold of Jaggi in the rear…and as Jaggi called us to move towards Kiddherpore…lol…and as we reached Nishat Sir’s place…where Jaggi was finally put to rest by Nishat Sir kissing him goodnight…as he broke down to sleep well…oh boy..one hell of a time….!

And yes, as for Saket Sir...he’s yet to learn about such demo type nimcians…

The NIMC Times – Part 2

Just past dawn the cellular jail…
the sun stands with its heavy red head…in a black stanchion of banyan trees…
A long day in green pastures where I too spent my days grazing…
Hosting and feasting on every green moment.
But as its eleven and the darkness calls…calls to one and others reply…
With whistles by one and others on the learn…
I walk away into the Panchuri's night,
Swinging the little tin bell of my name...

So much takes place in no span; and much of it comes to you from next door. Even walls had ears and this is how it spread, in a small world where small wonders cropped. So much to chatter and gossip about, even days were short and nights long. But once each day will give rise to thoughts that’ll deter you not to be a member of the forlorn and the dejected stand, FOSLA !

And like every year, Holi taking its own stake with its brown colour, after breakfast on BBC, and then with sludge and mud enjoying the pranks at the Hard Rock and sure you would recognize them all. And then swaying to Rang de Basanti with leaf petals around over C Block to catch them watching you with envy from the Cellular Jail. What a day of relishing the home made Bhaang that had its own tang and ingredients. The day when alumni turns up unexpected and when you get the better off having them in puddles of ash and whatnot! But always when you’ve got the Josh to mix colour in the bathroom tank at a place where the water supply never goes out on a day like this!

As juniors when you had the visible moustache up with cherry blossom and when you praised seniors on others say of the pudding in mess, of a good hairstyle and why not to propose! The Independence Day march pasts and the ones of archangels with bed sheets had their own charm. Regular sessions when it never rained and when it all started after the fresher’s day. Night inspections by Dogra and his GR guys, not to mention about duty officers from Bengal area putting up in the visitor’s room. And the fall-in behind S Block that unified us rest and got Chako, Dogra and Warden to arrive at half past two in the morning. Times when post supper strolls increased when nimc gave way to the infrequent power cuts and when eyes on the walls and the bats behind the crease, when junees reported as supermen and commandos, got screwed to screw up lizards, and when parties on patrols with buckets in hand twelve at night just to catch hold of hoping frogs that’ll cost them a delightful performa.

When bonfires spread uncontrolled and when NIMC had forest fires and could roll on to a barbeque at any place! Just in time to realize the log you’ve been resting upon could well be burning! Getting HIGH over your block’s high and the bathroom mischief that had its own fun. And when buddies had their own creativity in waking you up, when crackers went off from underneath your bed just to realize that you’re still down but fast in snooze! But once you were back from your leave did you realize of the fungus that had its own place of shades and smell. And that stink that came from the bathroom when anyone had been washing the clothes that got sponged to over three days! And when you made the best use of the water coolers to refrigerate the beer bottles! With time that reverts back to a time where loads of times were at your doorstep. And do just in time to make favours and get the job done, roaming around in and out just with a purpose of doing NOTHING! And only when you could stand on your feet and roll in your sleeves to pay the bill, were others shocked ‘cas hadn’t they perceived of the money that landed up in your account that very day! Not to mention when people maintained your accounts and when you redirected your credits to third parties.

Occasions when you could haul out out other block’s LAN cable just to realize the speed with so some awesome! Times when the PING was ready to acknowledge back and when pages got downloaded by Download Managers and the virus of MSM that spread like worms, when instant messaging worked like an offline service. But only to make the best use of the intranet that worked at full speeds and that gained momentum at nights. When projectors had their way to the rooms for movies to be screened on a larger aspect. The era of gaming that will go down in history as NIMC play station arenas, from Quake 3, Delta Force, NFS, the evergreen IGI and the recent talked about Counter Strike.

Talk of those exams that had their own charm. From the moment you chalked out your seating arrangement on the notice board and got to know of the venue by someone grateful to the time when you got cursed or got begged of helping someone by sitting next to you. And a glimpse of just how you could get the answers to your doorstep. Well, all you knew of having people sitting for you with loads in the library, or have them ready with an open google page in the Net Lab, and why not a quick ambush back to the block itself! Whatever suites you man, the corridor patrols were quite helpful anyways. There were times when the hon’ble external invigilator shared a quickie with the internal by pointing to someone’s chit that had fallen, or why not counter check the answers with someone sitting right diagonally opposite in the LH1, while someone got hold of a supplementary sheet not knowing who's it is? And when the question papers were exported out from the window pane and when answers reached the bathroom in no time that caught you getting there too often just to get back, heavily armed. Not to mention when someone called upon to the academic coordinator to get the invigilator changed altogether. ‘Total aatank’ in short.

But always you would realize the importance of the warden, who gave so much and always thought to grab you red-handed only if she succeeded in those tricky Hide-n-Seek. Not to mention of her sweet surprises (Mein aa gaye hun!)

From the freaky hours at the Hard Rock…To the correspondence ones at the Net Lab
In the silence of the Library…And the wee hours of the dining hall,
Still confused what to do…?
Do it in the Eden Gardens…’cas it’s a safe Spanish Harlem.

Today (12.03.2006) ....... AIM's arena (Programing Lab) has turned up into battle field...it has filled with bullets, shells and bloods of Terrorists and Counter Terrorists......... everyone is armed with Magnum(sniper), Kreig, M4A1, SMG and kevlar and many more....... because for the 1st time in the history of AIM.... we are fighting with each other .

Six teams with six players in each are thirsty for oppenent's blood and they wanna kill at any cost coz if they don't then they will be killed........

There is do or die situation for each team.....

The battle scheduled to start at 11:00 AIM 12.03.2006 but due to smooth functioning of AIM's Lab comps and LAN....it delayed for 2 hrs and started at 1:00 Pm........girl's has also formed their troop and they are ready to crush the rest of the five boys team...

Right now the battle is going on......

Every time two teams is facing each other..

the sides (terrorist and counter terorrist)..will be decided by a toss of coin.....

there will be 21 battle between two teams at same location......de_dust...which is unanimously chosen by all the team.......

there will be league, semifinal and final battle..

for the preparation of this battle our Abacus club......who are Lords of The WAR (Moderator) for the very 1st time... they took sanction from BIG R (the registrar) and in our full knowledge...he astonishingly surprised everyone with green card......but...terrorists and Counter terrorists have to bring their own PC.....

Crux of Dristikon 2006

The Army Institute of Management, held it's annual discussion on the finance bill called Dristikon on the 7th of march 2006. The panel included some distinguished personalities from various fields namely Mr. Udayan Ray, Director (Finance), NICCO was the moderator spoke first thereafter Mr. Prodipto Banerjea, Exe. VP, Finance, ITC and Mr. Siddhartha Chatterjee, Capital Market Analyst.

Mr. Udyan Ray emphasized on the point that no matter how the budget is, one needs to work within it and go by it. He also said that the economy looked stronger, as a result of the strong rate. Other aspects like inflation, MAT, indirect taxes etc were also emphasized upon. he seemed pleased about the fact that the finance minister was more focused on implementing the budget.

Mr. Proditpto Banerjea claimed that there were not many surprises in the bill. He pointed out the fact that the government wants more FDI over FII. His main emphasis however, was on the tax to GDP ratio. He also spoke about the pillars namely agriculture, education, infrastructure and public health in context to Dr. Chidambarams budget. He concluded by saying that the finance minister has gambled with two aspects:

Firstly, he has assumed that there will continue to be a lot of money in the stock market.

Secondly, there will be growth in the agriculture sector this year as well.

The final speaker was Mr. Siddhartha Chatterjee who provided the discussion with much needed humor. He spoke mainly about the stock market and how it has affected the budget and vice versa. He saluted the budget giving examples of some companies whose share prices have ten-folded over the last 3 years like L&T, BEML etc.

He also spoke about the systematic investment plan or the SIP process. He concluded by saying just one emphatic statement - India is unstoppable.

All in all, it was an excellent discussion that helped students get an insight on the nations complex budget.

Success of 1st event of new council "DRISHTIKON 2006"

Dearest Alumni,

Here i have some good news for our alumni that we as a new council feel proud that we have made our first event successful. The whole event was a joint effort of us and some guidance form our faculty members.

All the three panelist which was mentioned by Anushree in earlier mail were the excellent speaker. Their speach was enlighting form i think so but it was bit boring because as usual most of them were just listening as it may remind ur AIM days probably.

You might not be intrested in the proceedings of the event but i m putting them for the as the essential part of the event which were as follows:

All the three panelist were welcomed by Director Sir, Dr. K. K. Choudhuri. Then every thing was hosted by Navjit Kaur, Secretary Student affiars. Thereafter Amit Rana gave a small presentation on The Budget (Finance Bill). Hence the discussion was started.

Mr. Udayan Ray, Director (Finance), NICCO was the moderator spoke first thereafter Mr. Prodipto Banerjea, Exe. VP, Finance, ITC and Mr. Siddhartha Chatterjee, Capital Market Analyst. All the three panelist said the folowing points common:
1. the Budget is moderate and have the mix reaction form the market.
2. the budget is for attracting the foreign FDI's and investors for the building up of infrastucture for the takeoff of economy.
3. As market is booming which means that the budget is in favour of the market.

Also they spoke on many topics like social security, taxes, Tax to GDP ratio, stocks, agriculture and widening of gap between poor and rich & many more.

Finally, do wish ur college's present council all the best and we hope to meet the standards set by our seniors last year and above all make our alumni proud.

Hello everybody,

A lot of time has passed since we have posted anything to you all, do give us some time because the new council has just started off and we are learning the tricks of the trade.

The news is that the new council is organising the very first event for the college and that is DRISHTIKON-BUDGET DISCUSSION. It is a post budget discussion on the finance bill presented by our honourable Finance Minister, Mr.P.Chidambaram in the parliament.

The objective of this discussion is to interpret the budget and what impact it will have on the industrial sector, capital markets, insurance sector, employment and many more areas.

A panel discussion will take place with one moderator and three panelists who will give their views about the budget. This will be followed by an open house interaction with the students as well as the faculty members.

We have invited three noted executives from major corporate houses to analyse the budget. They include-

Whole New Dimensions For New Council...

Well its time to say good bye by Student Council 2005-06 . AIM has its new council which had took over from today. The new council has been restructured and General Secretary post has been removed. Also there are less no. of people in the council as that will increase the accountability abd responsibility.

We would like to thank all alumni for their support. The time has come for us that we as alumni redefine our role and take our alma mater to new heights. We know most of our alumni are doing extremely well but during this one year of our Alumni Coordinators stint, they found very few alumni who are proactive. The time has come for all of us to be proactive. Let us Roar- Role of Alumni Redefined. We are not here to give sermon but one thing which alumni should appreciate is whenever any leads are provided or any work has to be done, they should first know that an alumni coordinator is working in the same bueracrautic set up like the one in which they had studied.

Now at least things have changed for good. Chalne ko to sab waise hi chalta hai but people are required to show the right direction. We are not beating our own drums but the outgoing council has been able to do exactly the same thing. ( You can confirm the same from my previous councils). There has been regular allegations that the present batches do not participate in fests and all, but the fact is that we are under the WBUT system and unnecessary academic requirements are so much that there is no chance for respite. We hope our juniors will address this particular problem much more efficiently.

In the crack of dawn you crave for more only if there is energy in core, You pop out right at four for a fall-in so austere!

Thanks to pioneers who set the trend of a few traditions that knew no bounds, to those lines that punches you often and to those anthems that were more of a giggle. A place drawn by extreme combatism from jokers to juniors, you're ultimately molding into a corporate mogul! And then comes from the young pumping nerves, "HIGH SIR!" You bett you would grasp, if nothing else, the famous Bhojpuri intro and should have no hassles tieing that knot, without the knot! A time to interact, a time to relate, a time to enact, was the time to live by it.

Drawn to a campus that makes you something out of nothing. Well, talk about it, as Dominique Lapiere calls it, the city of joy e mbodies the love of culture; not to mention the never-ending strikes and bandhs famous for. It's triumph of intellectualism and say over greed. The complete transparency of all emotions, the warmth of genuine humanity and the supremacy of emotions over all other aspects of human existence. As they call it, the city with a soul!

The rest is defined by misty mornings of due remains and quite like mainas that you may count or the chirps in the olive green backyards of koels and woodpeckers that flock high in the aged barks of century old people and bargad and squeals and squeaks of squirrels so fast. Inclusive are the runs and stead fast walks by a few along with the visits to the Nirman for a shape so well defined. Not to mention some whom you can spot right amidst in BBC dribbling it well and a little afar who may have been watching the judgment day for the dooms day all night long. Not long, you may even spot musketeers back from GP, the delightful savor of cost-cutting flavour! At around half past six , you can boast your morning dose with a cup of the so-called tea to quench the long awaited drink. Many a few are still not lucky but are fast in snoozes in the olive backed barracks that are partitioned to furnish quarters well ventilated with network cables. A glance in rooms and outside may reveal you the born muggers, the late night adventurers and the majority for whom speed is worshipped and net is fast. For since alumni has called it the resort to holiday inn, let late evenings surface its actual stride. A place so well chalked out
in an area acre miniature in nature, even Le Corbusier would have praised it's sector-wise demarcations. And much of limelight is from the press when it comes to roll over the headlines, something so important in the making of a manager or a techno-manager! At the daybreak of outmost freedom, for those who abide by the boarding way, life's at its best. An army runs on its stomach, an army institute on a flavorsome meal! Talk about the first meal of the day that not many relish it, the Thursday's paranthas being the most desired; for which many experience sleepless nights. But only if you were the lucky lad could you make your way to the mess or land up knocking on Shushanto's doors! And there you will be in time for the 11 o'clock tea, still uncertain of the lecture or relying on the proxy.

Talk about the tickle tackle and the never ending gossips or the classroom chit chat that always strayed your way for a conversation so sought after. Or do it in the Eden Gardens 'cas it's a safe Spanish Harlem, a place to freak out so often. Or do it on that Puliya , you sure would remember that. The onslaught of the spring made the jokers relished the mango pulp, for which they made their way up on that delightful savor of juicy pleasure. And in detached evenings of Bengal chill, making the pants of warmth of bonfires, hosting the feast with fruit juice and chicken nuggets. For any moment you could still think right to 'by the left' stroll out for a night safari, to Khiddherpore for a second helping, to Setu on bikes, joy rides on trailers, up on that Chimney and why not to the Cellular jail, to the Maidan or surfing up the security covers on the race course! Music outings to Someplace Else for pop nights in this country side for a west side story. NIMC turns into small patches of sundry ventures on every manic Monday and Saturday nights. We explored and we learnt, we followed and preached, the NIMC way.

The evenings were the most happening, the dance parties now and then, not to mention its sharp downfall. The never ending laughter and the wit, the cups that smile with glimmering of sweet wine and beer bottles that knew no bounds, hard rock its most sought after destination. Age shall grow mellow with the thought of it, of a home
far away from home! But till late at dusk you'll find yourself, as clueless as ever, both for you and the better half, still gazing down at the grass or waiting for falling stars to fall in again. This may just be the start of nostalgic evidences and the era of alumni. It would bring an adieu to your long plea for placements and blink the reverie that would open your horizon to a whole new world backed by nerve biting competition. Under the army umbrella you grew to be determined. Those were the days, the NIMC days of jollity and mirth that can never be forgotten. Just tinged with sorrow enough to welcome in, with the heartier " ha ha ha bara maza aaya". Years shall recall the NIMC times that knows no dearth of ready jests and sunshine, of sweet lays and lime, of paranthaas or of anda tarka! All wassails that give birth to bliss that lifts the spirit from the earth of a place so loved of.

All it was a different tale to narrate and learn, ever since alumni used to visit the campus and share their experiences. From juniors in school to brats in college, you guess it was a small place to be. And yes it was, different from the usual stereotype. From kicking the ball to chasing it, you could realize all the importance in sports, from inter football matches to the hooter filled volleyball ones prior to freshers, the most sought after TT, the late night badminton, the university meet, the cricket county matches, with alumni on BBC and what not.

I would have given anything in this world to just get back those days, the ragging of the seniors, those introductions, those mugging up of names, those wake-up calls, those midnight fall-ins, those running routines behind S block, those interactive BBC skits, the hip hops, the fresher dance amidst BBC session time, the penning down of countless articles and presentations, the frightening evenings in the mess, the smile wash, the punch lines and the dubbed anthems...the

NIMC Times!

Of course, anybody interested in him can access to easily available Swamiji literature. Also our college have subscription of one of the prominent publication of the mission "Vedanta kesari" which is a publication of the Chenni math.

Swami Vivekanda was having great faith in Youth. He never said to help the men but to serve the men as the living form of god. For this purpose he established Ramakrishna math and Order, at the Belur, which now function as the global Headquarter. Hyderabad math is the one of few maths established by himself.

Although from my childhood I have heard the name and the the name of the organisation but till I came in touch personally with the math and its workings in Hyderabad I was unaware about it. There I come in touch with many highly respectable Monks of the order among them I would like to name a few as Swami Tadananda JI Maharaj, Swami Srikantananda ji Maharaj and President of the Hyderabad math SRIMAT SWAMI PARAMARTHANANDA who left the mortal coil toreach the lotus feet of Bhagwan Ramakrishna yesterday 27th Jan 2006.

Among the 5 different kind of services identified by the monk (among which Spiritual preaching is of highest order) Hyderabad math is involved in all and it was swamiji's guiding lights among all.

Its various departments include: Ramakrishna Universal Temple, language courses in Vivekananda Institute of Languages, some 20 courses for the youth in the Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence, Vivekananda Health Centre, Vivekananda Library .

Now a days going abroad for the career is a good option but the language acts as a barrier. Although English have become a universal language but the coutries like China, Germany, Spane, France, Japan where different kind of languages are spoken still doesn't accomodate English very well but offers very good opportunities for career as well as higher studies.

Vivekananda Institute of Languages (VIOL) offers course up to diploma level in the above languages, that too at very affordable fee.

While I was learning German Language at the math I came in touch with the Swami Ji. Later I was a team member for the project of developing web site for the math http://www.rkmath.org/.

The news about Swami Paramarthananda ji came this morning, as a bolt from the blue. I last saw him in Feb 2005, when I visited the math for the last time before leaving for my native place.

One want to know how its feels to be with a monk then the only way is to be with a monk like swamiji. A great inspiring light for youth he was. I first saw him in the math itself during a 3 days residential youth camp organised by the math. I had just listened about the eyes which reflect intellectual and... and I dont know excatly what but this happens only with the great people... But I found something there... with sweet but still very impressive voice tone he was very inspiring for the youth. Although whenever I heard him publically, that was in telugu and I could not understand more than a few words but still there was something catching me towards him. Despite his poor health he was preacing Gita twoice a weak.

Math works for all sorts of good for the society and specially for the young generation, just people need to know, about the order. Then also when Swami Vivekananda visited West in the parliament of religion they recognised his greatness first. Now, also all his teachings are meaningfull in the completely changed world context, Its upon us how much we can adapt. Most of the young generation think that he was just a spiritual Yogi but he is still relevent for the young managers like us also.

He speaks on Leadership as "The difficulty is not in organisation and making plans; the test, the real test, of the leader, lies in holding widely different people together along the line of their common sympathies."

Yesterday i got job offer from Jayashree Textiles of Aditya Birla Nuvo(ABN) group.
Before accepting the offer I was drowning in the ocean of confusion, coz I’d to decide among two choices one is Grmtech which deals with the online solution which was matching with my passion and area of interest, the only problem was my educational background(Bio science)on the other hand there was Aditya Birla group which is one of the biggest group in India.

Also I’d set my priorities which were job>>career>>company>>Salary.

so if I’d selected Grmtech I would have got all four of these things also in case of Aditya Birla I saw all of them that’s why I was very confused.

My confusion increased to 100 times by my friends, all were saying you should go with Aditya Birla group so that I’ll get good start, but I was standing at my point of joining Grmtech. At last moment I took out my CV and decided that I’ll go for Grmtech but later one of my friend said that

“look you are missing golden opportunity, later you shouldn’t feel regretful for it, Like you felt before when you refused one company”.

Also one of my other friend said “we all have two ways of living - we can either drive the steering of life, or we can leave it upon god”

Then I thought I should at least seat for the company if I’ll make it then I’ll think that it is Father’s decision coz I’ve nothing to loose.
Well in interview everything went well.

Battlefield

Right now i'm coming from battle field not that kind of battle field which means -

-An area where a battle is fought
-A sphere of contention

but the field where we MBA guys fight - Group discussion and PI, we fight for our placement when ever a good company comes then, our conference hall turns battle ground, till now i fought two battles one for TATA Rayerson and today for HCL Technologies.

Today in GD we had different groups, and no. of soldiers were 10 in each group, my group was D and my no. was D-2, while waiting for our chance I felt that i'm waiting for some kind of war and going for it, 1st our group members made many plans before entering into the field, that we will discuss properly in organise way and don't create any mess but those guys who planned as friendly fighter later they turned into our enimies from hell they were fighting like d.... well dog is not the right word but still they were fighting like hell, like this is there last chance etc.... through out the discussion i felt that i'm in the wrong place b'coz the topic what we got was abstract and we could make out some thing creative out of but our group memebers/soldiers took it in wrong direction from Iraq war to India-pakistan relationship, the topic was so simple and nice - dead yesterday, unborn tomorrow which means what ever we have is today.

The GD is still going on, different battle teams are getting ready for it to fight till the last breath of their life after that we have the main fight which we fight individually with HR team of Companies.

This is a humble request to all those in the mess Comittee to improve the taste of the food being served in the mess. Thfe food's quality is really in a MESS. The only thing that is served well is th choola-Bhatura that too ocossionally. The mess staff should vary the composition of ingredients so that the taste changes.
All u guys out there are requested to bring the matter to light so that atleast we get food with different taste.

As I always say there is no failure only learnings or we can say we never loose only learn something good out of it.

We had our annual inter-college fest – Inferno this weekend. I had participated in two events one in marketing and the other in Web designing. My marketing team members were Nidhi, Joydeep, Poonam & I, and Web designing team member were Naveen & I.

We spent about 4hrs. on the marketing case study and 40 minutes in Web designing. We bagged the 1st. position in marketing and 3rd. position in Web designing. This achievement was not at all possible without the help of my group members. But since I love to make website and it is also my hobby i really wanted to win the Web designing event, and as far as my feedback about both the events goes, i think i used my grey matter more in the f Web designing event, but unfortunately the two judge out of three being a marketing person and software designer were incompetent to understand the technical aspects which my group has presented and awarded the others as winners.

What i hated is not losing but the fact that i lost the 1st position because the judge could not look beyond his own fixed ideas and accept something new which even the worlds best Web designers would acknowledge.

Anyway later I told myself that, one should not always win, because until you don’t lose once in a while you don’t understand the value of winning. That really helped me to calm down and move on.

Not to mention that on Friday I and 5 of my friends had gone out to celebrate the Rs.1400 and gift coupons we got as prize money for the 1st. position. We had a nice time outside, i really loved those mutton briyani and chicken bharta…

Anyways the fest is over and now there are more important things to do, like our 3rd semester exams and our placements.

I like web designing and i love to develop WebPages, even though I haven’t joined any institute for it, today we'd got website designing competition (online Dot Com) in our institute as part B'school festival - Inferno, My partner + very good friend of mine, Naveen Sharma we both participated, we got one case study upon which we had to develop one site in 1 hour 15 minutes, Since i'm very much comfortable with windows Xp i demanded PC with XP but they denied to provide even though we were the first group(may be they don't like the concept of 1st come 1st serve), I don't like to make any excuses but i would like to write truth what exactly went - the kind of PC we got was pathetic in 15 minutes it get hanged for 15 times, There was'nt any thumb view of pictures option some how file got corrupted so it took us 35 min to search right kind picture out of more than 200 pictures, we didn’t allowed to use Adobe photoshop by which i give a lots of effects to pictures like I did with the banners and posters of B'school fest Inferno and many more things.... so that i got so pissed off and furious, I just revolt against organiser of abacus club which again wasted my 15 minutes. 1st i decided that i won't participate coz if i can't give my best shot then what is the use participation but later my partner tried to pacify me. later I told one thing to myself that if you get all kind of luxury + etc.... Then how can you judge your abilities, the best designer is that person who can take out best things from worse situation + so many constraints.

Then we both started building website and amazingly it was really beautiful and very simple, the best thing about the website was attracting appearance, colour combination, consistency, our logo, home page, etc..

Here i'm not saying that we had created the perfect site -
-=- we did many mistakes like we didn't made questionnaire page due to time constaraints
-=- Judges were stick to order billing form which was very lengthy (but here i would like to mention one thing is that if you go through any site like eBay, alibaba.com etc who deals with B-B/B-C/C-C transaction you will find that they will make you fill up 5-6 pages of form which is very lengthy as compared to our 1 page billing form )

another mistake that i would like to mention, from which i had learned a lots of things in my MBA life thatt no matter how good is your product if you can't present it properly then you can't sell it, After all Jo dikhta hai woh Bikta hai (you buy only those things which you can see)

Almost all the contestants had made there website like...(no comments) except one which stood 1st whom i thought will stand second after us, i don't like to talk about the other contestants coz i did'nt liked any of them, they didn’t had any consistent theme, almost all of them didn’t made questionnaire except one for which judges screwed us, they forgot vital information which is very essential while making any transaction (i know b'coz i did some homework about it last night), and many more things....

Now the question is whether we won or not, if you ask this question to judges they will say NO......
If you asked this question with us then we'll say we'd made best website from others and we'd won coz we'd learned many things from this contest

There is no mistakes, only learning’s
Never take anything for granted
Never underestimate yourself and others too
How to work in constraints and lack of resources
Belive in yourself even results don't favor you
Simple is the best

Later all the winners and contestants were saying that you'd made best website, even they din't had any idea what judges saw in their site if you ask me - they did many major mistakes if your ask with any professional website designer you'll come to know. Even you can tell who won just compare these two sites http://www.frontech.com/ and http://www.dell.com/ or http://www.apple.com/

In these last lines i would like to mention that winning and loosing was not the issue which bothered only thing that i didn’t like was i hurt the expectations of my batch mates who thinks that I’m the best web designer i don't know why... but i would like to say them that if you always win that you won't care about your mistakes but if you loose then you will take care of your mistakes and try to improve your self which is the essence of our life.

Update-=-13.11.05: last night i tried to interrogate what went wrong but I didn’t found any solid reasons but later I found it, as I use to say there are three things which brings you down to the earth that is greed, lust and anger and yesterday I was driven by greed and anger which pulls me down from goodness mode to passion mode and later to the ignorance mode.

I have been taking part in inferno for two years in a row and am amazed by how much it teaches me everytime.Last year since other colleges could not participate so the contest was not so competitive and we did not know where we stood..........but this time around it was really great,the number of other colleges who gave us strong competition, the sponsorships which we were able to bring, the way the event was managed, the number of prizes our college bagged, the whole enviornment was really, really good.Other than the serious stuff it is really nice to see that there is so much of talent amongst my batchmates and juniors........because its really easy to give presentations, work on cases, etc. but really, really difficult to go up on stage and bring a smile on the audiences face.......i really appreciate those people who have done it.On the whole i think that our Inferno 2005 was a huge success and hope it will keep on improving and do better the next time and the times to come.

I was so happy this evening coz i was about to finish updating my blog with a fresh new look with different features like new easy way of commenting etc.... i heated my head for more than 6 hrs coz our net connection is not slow but almost close to dead even a apple snail's bandwith is faster than ours..... so i was trying really hard to update my blog.... meanwhile i took help from Darrnell (Israeli Guy) he helped me a lot....I was very happy while eXperimenting new features in my blog..... there was two intresting features whose coding took 1 hrs 30 min... and i was about to save it but at that time one of my Junior Mr Avinash Dubey... Came besides me and start looking at my work then suddenly he turnned off my computer... arrrgghhhhh Dubbeeeeyyy.. it was so frustating and....... moments...... .....for some seconds i could'nt understand what happened but then i realize it was Dubey, actually he was switching computer besides mine but he is such a confused guy he switched off my CPU's power button. For a moment i thought that i'll **lL him but another moment i realize that it was just an accident, he did'nt mean it...... so i quietly stand up and went to mess to had dinner....

Yaa, The night was a really remembering one for the MBA-9 (boys Specially). After a sucessful PEPSI ceremony RAHUL was given the birthday bumps. Man he was in real trauma untill the ceremony, but once it was over every thing was like smooth ride for him. Ahhh....
Finally, my summer project report is over , (Mehnat rang lai) which has bothered me for last few weeks....
Because of which I couldn’t able to write any new blog........sleep properly…etc…
I'm getting…kind of relaxed feelings, but still i can feel the after effects of long hardwork… my head is still spinning coz I continuously worked for hours on my project since morning, yeah I know what you are thinking….about breaks…

In the mean time I’d many breaks like
Breakfast>>Internal exams>>Attended Meeting for improvement of net speed which always crawls(I'm part of student council, you know..)
>> lunch>>Evening tea with pakodas>>Dinner>>Milk (And also breaks includes all those things You know...#&%$#)

there's a person "Mr. Kennedi" who was asked by his boss to choose between his job or blog....he chosed latter n is really happy with his decision as he has now started earning thru his blogs by consultin in Astrology...

Today was very tough day, till morning it was fine, I had paratha in our Mess then i came here at net lab to check out new mails after that i tried to put some new codes for new features in our LIfe at AIM-K blog everything was going smoothly and then i went outside but when i came back I found that somehow our blog was'nt working, i'd checked, double checked, triple checked........ but i could'nt able to figure out the problem, it took me hrs to find out the problem actually whole code somehow changed, somehow one extra link addded in front of every link and in my site if you go through you will find out there are so many links... today i learnt a lesson that it is always better to keep back ups......
